Asociación SICOES (Síndrome de Cohen España)

This month, the PCBakers will raise money for the SICOES (Síndrome de Cohen España) association.

SICOES is an association founded in 2019 by families of children with Cohen syndrome. Cohen syndrome is an ultra-rare disease that affects less than 1000 people worldwide. It causes multiple alterations, being microcephaly, intellectual disability and retinal degeneration the most common ones. So far, it is an incurable disease that cannot be reversed or slowed down. Due to this low prevalence, research on this syndrome is practically nonexistent. For this reason, 17 families of Spanish Cohen syndrome patients have created this association whose main objective is to directly promote research on the disease.

On Wednesday May 17th from 9-11.30 AM, the PCBakers will raise money for the NEN association, which directly supports research projects about neuroblastoma, a deadly pediatric cancer.

NEN is an association which was founded in 2011 by parents, relatives, and friends of children with Neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma is a childhood cancer that forms in the nervous system. It is the third most common type of pediatric tumor, with a survival rate below 50% for affected children. For this reason, and given the need for effective treatments, parents of children who suffer or have suffered from the disease have come together in NEN to achieve three objectives:

Provide help and information for the diagnosis and disease process.

Inform those affected by neuroblastoma about new scientific advances such as new treatments and therapeutic options.

Collaborate and promote, both economically and socially, the research that is needed to cure this disease.

Proyecto AfroVaca

Project Afrovaca is a social development aid organization with 20 years of experience that works side-by-side with local coordinators and farmers to improve living conditions and basic production systems in the farming communities of Burkina Faso. It is, therefore, a very local project, which is near and dear to the protagonists- the farmers- and which favors an endogenous and sustainable development.

The Afrovaca Project promotes the financing of bulls and cows for farming families in Burkina Faso. Plowing with oxen allows a better optimization of resources and facilitates food self-sufficiency. The other branch of the project is the creation and regular financing of Solidarity Banks. They are organized in a self-managed way and grant microloans to under-resourced women.

This project has no paid staff either in Burkina Faso nor in Spain, so virtually all of their financial resources are allocated to rural cooperation in this African country where it has a huge impact; a donation of €250 can finance an ox, and €20 is enough for a microloan. The project has financed more than 300 oxen and supports 6 solidarity banks in various communities in Burkina Faso.
